A source of reliable, safe and easily assessable water is one of the most challenging situations we face in the rural farming communities in which the Neighbor Kwa Jirani Foundation works.
Because children can spend large amounts of time each day bringing water from far away streams, they can miss school and after-school homework time.
We are able to give families, schools and community groups this most basic of human needs by hiring local well diggers.
These wells are usually around 60' (18 m) deep, lined with brick and mortar and have a cement top with a metal lid. Water is drawn out by hand from a bucket on a rope.
